Travel Vlogger MH 45 Rider Ganesh Bhanavase Denied Overnight Stay in Ratnagiri’s Madban Village and Ansure Temple, Sparking Controversy

Ratnagiri: A controversy has emerged in Madban village in Ratnagiri district following the experience of cyclist and travel vlogger (YouTuber and Instagrammer) Ganesh Bhanavase, known for his YouTube channel ‘MH 45 Rider’, over permission to stay overnight in the area.

Bhanavase has been travelling across different states and countries by bicycle and documenting his journeys on YouTube. One of his notable journeys has been a long-distance cycling expedition across India, Nepal and Bhutan, reflecting his extensive experience of travelling by bicycle and interacting with communities along the way.

Bhanavase expressed his displeasure after local representatives allegedly asked him to obtain permission from the Gram Panchayat before staying overnight.

According to Bhanavase's account in his video, he had already provided his Aadhaar card details to a local police patil and informed them about his plans to stay in the area. However, when he later planned to put up a tent near the beach, he was told that he needed permission from the Gram Panchayat.

“I Am Not Here to Commit a Crime”

Following the instructions, Bhanavase went to the Gram Panchayat office to seek permission. He claimed that officials instead asked him to contact the police station or have the concerned person speak with the police.

The development frustrated the traveller, who questioned why he was being directed to different authorities despite voluntarily providing his identification and contact details.

During the interaction, Bhanavase repeatedly stressed that he was travelling and had no intention of committing any offence.

“I am not here to commit a crime,” he said, while questioning the manner in which the permission process was handled.

According to Bhanavase, his objection was not to providing identification but to feeling as though he was being treated as a suspicious person.

He said he has been travelling by bicycle for around three years and that this was the first time he had experienced such a situation..

He said he was willing to provide his Aadhaar card, contact number and other identification details, but felt that the interaction made him feel as though he was being treated like a suspicious person.

Bhanavase subsequently said that he would not return to Madban because of the experience

Following the incident, Bhanavase decided to leave Madban and continue his journey towards Ansure.

Dispute Over Overnight Stay at a Ansure Dev Gireshwar Mandir Temple

Another issue raised by Bhanavase was his request to stay overnight at a "Ansure Dev Gireshwar Temple" in the area.

According to his account, he wanted to spend the night at the temple but was not permitted to stay. He questioned why a traveller could not be allowed to stay overnight at such a large temple after providing identification documents.

He argued that travellers and pilgrims visiting the Konkan region may sometimes need a safe place to spend the night.

However, the temple management's detailed version of events is not independently presented in the video. Therefore, the exact reason Bhanavase was not allowed to stay at the temple could not be established from his account alone.

Local Representatives Cite Safety Concerns

The latter part of Bhanavase's video features conversations with local residents of Ansure village, a Gram Panchayat member and the village sarpanch.

According to the local representatives, maintaining a record of visitors staying overnight in the village is important from a security perspective. They explained that if an outsider stays in the village, the local administration may have a responsibility for the person's safety and therefore needs basic information about the visitor.

They also sought Bhanavase's identification details and contact information.

Bhanavase acknowledged the importance of safety but maintained that he was unhappy with the way the permission process had been handled.

Emotional Reaction to the Incident

The refusal to allow him to stay at the temple appeared to affect Bhanavase emotionally. He connected the incident to the broader question of how travellers and pilgrims are treated in rural areas.

He also spoke about the importance of helping fellow travellers, suggesting that identification documents could be collected for security purposes while still allowing genuine travellers to stay when appropriate.

At the same time, the local representatives maintained that their concerns were related to security and responsibility rather than opposition to Bhanavase personally.
Bhanavase Eventually Leaves Madban

Later in the video, he clarified that he did not intend to personally target or insult anyone from the village. He acknowledged that travellers encounter different kinds of people and experiences during long journeys.

He said that while some places provide memorable experiences, others may leave travellers disappointed.
