'Gondhal', a film that pushes the technical boundaries of Marathi cinema, has been released across all theatres and is receiving an overwhelming response from both audiences and critics. Strong word-of-mouth publicity is helping the film reach an even wider audience, and many theatres have already increased the number of shows.
Backed by a powerful storyline, grand scale, and intense performances, the film was already a hot topic. But now, another spectacular highlight has come to light. In the first half of 'Gondhal', the film features an extraordinary 25-minute continuous one-take scene — the longest such one-take ever attempted in the history of Indian cinema.
To accomplish this record, the entire team perfected this massive take within seven days. Such a large-scale, precisely planned one-take sequence is a first for Indian films. The one-take filmmaking style has gained significant international recognition as well. Hollywood films like Birdman (2014) and 1917 (2019) effectively used this technique and went on to win Oscars. Gondhal now joins this league with confidence, demonstrating that Indian — and especially Marathi — cinema can deliver world-class technical brilliance.
This 25-minute continuous shot in Gondhal is the first of its scale in India, elevating the film’s visual experience to an immersive international standard.
Speaking about the experience, director Santosh Davkhar said,
To perfect this massive 25-minute one-take sequence demanded intense preparation and remarkable teamwork, the entire team worked tirelessly for seven days. Director Santosh Davkhar revealed the challenges behind the scene "Every wire, every focus, every color temperature tested our limits. We shot for seven nights, used over 300 junior artists every day, laid out lighting setup across more than three-quarters of a kilometer, and needed five generators plus three tankers of petrol". He added that watching the entire scene flow smoothly in one take felt magical.
Such meticulous planning makes this achievement not just a technical milestone but a moment of pride for the entire Marathi film industry.
While many films in the past have used the one-take technique for small or medium scenes, ‘Gondhal’ brings to Indian audiences a continuous, uninterrupted 25-minute one-take for the first time. This achievement by a Marathi film is not just a technical triumph it also delivers a uniquely immersive experience to viewers.
Beyond the technical marvel, 'Gondhal' stands strong for its storytelling. The film delves into Maharashtra’s traditions, the complexities of human emotions, the tensions within relationships, and the roller-coaster of changing situations. The film blends drama and thrill in a unique way, bringing to life powerful characters and their layered emotional journeys — keeping the audience glued to their seats from start to finish.
Written and directed by Santosh Davkhar, the story, screenplay, and dialogues all come from his creative vision. The film is produced under Davkhar Films, with Deeksha Davkhar as co-producer. The film features renowned actors including Kishor Kadam, Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, Nishad Bhoir, Anuj Prabhu, Suresh Vishwakarma, Madhavi Juvekar, Aishwarya Shinde, Kailash Waghmare, Prabhakar Matapathi, Vitthal Kale, Praveen Dalimbkar, Sharad Jadhav, Poonam Patil, and Dhruv Thoke in major roles. Each performance adds depth to the film’s powerful narrative.
The achievement of Gondhal is far more than a Marathi cinema milestone — it’s a historic moment for Indian filmmaking. The film has proven that regional cinema can deliver world-class innovation, scale, and storytelling that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with global cinema.
